There are a few signs to look for that could indicate a problem with your water heater – and possibly the need for replacement
Rusty water
When the plumbing in your house is good, you shouldn’t have to worry about rusty water coming out of your pipes. There can be multiple sources of rust, including your pipes and your water heater. If it’s the pipes, we can talk to you about your options for fixing the problem. If the rust is coming from your water heater, it’s a sign that the steel inside the heater is breaking down. Steel is tough – but rust eventually destroys steel, especially if the steel is regularly exposed to water. If you want to determine if the rust is coming from your pipes or your water heater, you can find out. Drain your water heater using a bucket. If you are still getting rusty water in the third bucketload of water, chances are the rust is coming from your pipes.
